Framing has been moving along for our own mid-century modern project here in Krisana Park. New sections of the house framed up quickly, while the existing interior has taken much more time.
The major reason for this is that all the existing beams were originally split into two spans with random walls which creates more work for moving interior walls around. For these spots we have been cutting the beams back to the closest wall and taking out sections of beams and then replacing them with new ones. Accomplishing this from below has been a challenge as the original nails are the size of spikes and there are large thick steel plates on top of each beam splice. From inside these houses don't seem like they are held together with much, but the T&G decking combined with strategic splicing and good fasteners kept these houses sound for half a century.
