70s Modern

We completed a full remodel of this unique 1970s home based on the owners’ inspiration: a comfortable, laid-back California vibe, combined with the light, clean calmness of a Scandinavian aesthetic with a few mid-century modern elements. An L.A.-based designer Natalie Myers came up with the perfect term: Scandifornian.

The house — originally designed by local architect Edward Towbin and featuring a bold profile with three sloped roof volumes — was enhanced with larger window and door openings, a brand new kitchen and mudroom, reconfigured primary suite and new finishes and fixtures throughout. We also utilized extra, unused space by adding a cozy family room for watching TV and listening to records. But we think the highlight is the improved open living and dining area that connects the kitchen to the back patio via large sliding patio doors and abundant glass.
